colorado snow report, breckenridge current conditions

Snow Report for Colorado ski areas- Breckenridge, Vail, Heavenly, Keystone, Beaver Creek as of February 17Th, 2009. Current conditions and snow accumulation- Breckenridge ski area Mid mountain base- 52 inches Total snowfall- 184 inches 100% of 2,378 rideable acres open Vail ski area Mid mountain base- 57 inches Total snowfall- 286 inches 100% of 5,289 skiable acres is open Heavenly ski area Mid mountain base- 64 inches Total snowfall- 206 rideable inches 98% open Keystone ski area Mid mountain base- 42 inches Total snowfall- 130 inches 100% open Beaver Creek Ski area Mid mountain base- 59 inches Total snowfall- 266 inches 100% open When looking at these reports pay attention to the mid mountain statistic, it is not what they had, it is what they have. A higher mid mountain base means less chance of a core shot on your skis or board. Also, the more snow accumulation that a resort has, and the more that has melted, the more icy the on mountain conditions. In Breckenridge we are looking at a fairly large storm that will blow through over the next several days, hopefully dumping 12 or more inches of new snow. If you are looking to take a Breckenridge ski vacation please visit our site, http://www.rmlodging.com/ , for vacation rental homes and condos to accommodate you during your stay.

Breckenridge Gondola, The breck connect

The Breck connect gondola in Breckenridge, Colorado
Facts-
    • Transports 3,000 vacation travelers per hour
  • Takes 10 minutes to get to the very top, the base of peak 8

  • 7,592 feet from bottom to top

  • 121 cabins

  • 28 towers

  • 391 feet of elevation

  • Two mid stations pick up ad let off at Shock hill and Grand lodge
The Breck connect gondola transports Breckenridge skiers from downtown Breckenridge to the base of peak 8 in comfort and style. At the base of peak 8 you will find the Bergenhof, which is the oldest restaurant on the mountain, the snowboard terrain park ( which recently hosted the winter dew tour), The colorado superchair and rocky mountain superchair ( high speed lifts), as well as a ski and ride school. In the old days a nice drive up ski hill road would take you to the base, but with the construction of one ski hill place parking is hard to come by. However, parking is ample, but expensive, in one of several gondola lots that begin at ski hill road and go north through Breckenridge. Some of the properties located around the gondola include River Mountain lodge ( visit us at http://www.rmlodging.com/ to book our 1br), Mountain Thunder lodge, kingdom park town homes, ski hill condos, park place condos, and sawmill creek. The gondola is a fantastic option for those vacation renters that are lodged at the north end of Breckenridge. When deciding to vacation in Breckenridge visit us at http://www.rmlodging/ to book a vacation home in this area.

Growing up in Breckenridge Mardi Gras was not a big thing, but I moved to Baton Rouge Louisiana in 1989 and was broadsided with the institution that is Mardi Gras. I am glad to see it has become such a success up here in the high country. It is a one of a kind experience with none of the stench of New Orleans.

- update, looks like those of you that attend mardi gras 2009 in Breckenridge are going to be blessed with good snow and better weather. The weatherman (if you actually believe in them) is predicting several new inches of snow this week, but his weekend will be sunny and clear for Breckenridge Mardi Gras. Came and enjoy.

2009 2010 International Snow Sculpture Championship in Breckenridge Colorado
Posted by toby | Thursday, February 5, 2009
2009 2010 International snow sculpture championship winner!! This is the winner of the 2009 competition. No, not the lady in the red coat. She is the winner of the 2009 get in my shot of the winner competition. Congratulations to team Canada for taking first place with their sculpture titled "family Reunion". The competition was held in the parking lot next to the Breckenridge River walk Center across from the Village at Breckenridge and in the shadows of the Breckenridge Ski area. Second price went to team China's offering titled "the march of spring". This sculpture was on of my favorites, but who really cares what I think. I am a Breckenridge vacation rental manager, not an art critic. In the background, to the right, you can see Baldy mountain. This is third place, Wyoming's "Trunks Optional". It is simply amazing that the International Snow Sculpture championship was able to find contestants as far away as Wyoming to attend this event. Or that they were able to find people in Wyoming at all with a population density of 1 person per square mile, but I digress. All kidding aside, It was a wonderfully produced event and the sculptures were simply amazing. What people are able to do with these massive blocks of snow simply boggles the mind. The championship is one of several events in Breckenridge that makes a Breckenridge ski vacation one of a kind. This years competition was held form January 20th through 24th 2009. While securing your Breckenridge lodging accommodations for the upcoming winter ( visit us a http://www.rmlodging/ for your next vacation rental) I would highly recommend This week in January. Not only will you be able to witness this one of a kind event, but the skiing is wonderful and lodging rates are still low as it is early ski season. Until next time
